who we are
our website address is https://cabal.cafe. if you’re here, you probably love cocktails, questionable dance moves, and a good time. but let’s talk about privacy before we all get distracted.
comments
when you leave a comment, we collect the info you put in the form (duh), plus your ip address and browser details to keep the spam bots out. we’re not here for weird internet trolls.
if you use gravatar, your email might get turned into an anonymized string (a fancy way of saying “secret code”) to see if you have a profile pic. gravatar’s privacy policy is here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. if your comment gets approved, your profile pic will show up next to it.
media
if you upload photos, please don’t include location data (exif gps). why? because people can download and extract that info, and unless you want random strangers knowing where you took that fire selfie, it’s best to strip that data first.
cookies (no, not the edible kind, unfortunately)
- if you leave a comment, you can opt-in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies so you don’t have to type it again next time. these cookies last one year.
- if you visit our login page, we’ll set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. no personal data is stored, and it disappears when you close your browser.
- when you log in, we set cookies to save your login details and screen preferences:
- login cookies last two days.
- screen option cookies last one year.
- if you click “remember me,” your login stays for two weeks.
- logging out removes all login cookies, because that’s how the internet works.
- if you edit or publish an article, an extra cookie will be saved in your browser. it expires after one day and only tracks the post id of what you edited.
embedded content from other websites
articles on this site might include embedded content (videos, images, articles, etc.). these behave exactly like they would if you visited the original site, meaning:
- they might collect your data
- they might use cookies
- they might track your interactions (especially if you’re logged in to their site)
basically, if you’re clicking on embedded content, you’re at the mercy of the other website’s rules. browse wisely.
who we share your data with
- if you request a password reset, your ip address will be included in the email (because security is a thing).
- otherwise, we don’t sell, trade, or share your data unless the law says we have to or we need to prevent the internet from becoming a digital wasteland.
how long we keep your data
- if you leave a comment, it stays here forever. this way, we can approve follow-up comments automatically instead of moderating them for eternity.
- if you register an account, we store your profile info. you can see, edit, or delete your data anytime (except your username—no take-backs there). admins can also edit your info if necessary.
your rights over your data
if you have an account or have left comments, you can:
- request an exported file of all the personal data we have on you.
- request that we erase any personal data we hold about you.
this doesn’t include any data we legally have to keep for admin, security, or legal purposes. because, well, rules.
where your data goes
visitor comments may go through an automated spam detection service—because no one has time for spam (unless it’s in a sandwich).
questions? concerns? worried the internet knows too much about you?
if you need anything privacy-related, reach out. otherwise, just know we’re here to serve cocktails and throw great parties—not steal your data.
cheers,
the cabal team
